A story for the birthday boy. (Though, in the UK, it's over. )
Birthday Boy
-----------------------------
"Can I look yet?" asked Jamie while Zoe led him down the hallway, her hands over his eyes.
"No, not yet," said Zoe as he sighed and pouted. Today was his birthday and the Doctor had something special planned, though he didn't tell him what it was.
“That would ruin the surprise,” said the Doctor earlier. They walked along until Zoe stopped and walked in front of him, one hand still over his eyes. She opened the door when she led him inside the room then removed her hand.
“SURPRISE!” shouted the voices when he blinked and looked around the room. Balloons hung on strings from the ceiling along with different colored streamers and HAPPY BIRTHDAY was painted on the banner that stretched across the room. Standing around a large round table were the Doctor, Ben, Polly, Victoria and Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart and a large cake sat on the table. Jamie slowly walked to the table when Victoria and Polly walked closer and gave him a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Zoe gave him a kiss as well and Jamie sighed, a small tear trickling down his cheek.
“Are you all right, dear boy?” asked the Doctor, walking toward him.
“Aye, I’m fine,” whispered Jamie, wiping his eyes. Looking at them, he realized that this was his family. It was true that he lost his original family a long ago but these people had accepted him as one of their own and he loved them all very deeply. He also knew that he’d be lost without them, the Doctor most of all.
“Come on then, Mate, go make a wish and blow out the candle!” said Ben as he patted Jamie on the back and Jamie looked at the cake. It had white icing and HAPPY BIRTHDAY was written on the top in blue letters. There was a tiny dent in the icing from where someone took a taste as he glanced over at the Doctor and the Doctor whistled, looking up at a spot on the ceiling. Closing his eyes, Jamie smiled as he made a wish then blew out the candles, making everyone clap. After cutting the cake and giving Jamie the presents they brought him, Jamie noticed that the Doctor was missing and he left the room to go find out where he went. He found the Doctor in the control room as he walked closer and the Doctor smiled at him.
“Is there something wrong, Doctor?” asked Jamie while the Doctor moved around the console and was checked the screens and pushing buttons.
“No no no, dear boy, nothing’s wrong. In fact, if I did this right, you are in for a treat,” said the Doctor when they felt the TARDIS landing and the Doctor smiled. “Ah, yes, here we go. Now, why don’t you go outside, eh?”
“Why?”
“Well, you see, I planned something very special for your birthday and it’s right outside the door. At least I hope it is.” Not sure what the Doctor was talking about, Jamie walked to the door when he opened it and walked outside. The smell of fresh flowers and salt air filled his nostrils as he looked around and a small house with a stone fence was to his right. The Doctor followed him outside as he tapped his back and Jamie turned, looking at him. “Um, where are we?”
“We’re just outside of Paris, if I’m not mistaken. Now, why don’t you turn around and say hello,” said the Doctor as he pointed to the two figures behind Jamie and he turned, seeing two familiar yet stunned faces.
“Jamie?!” asked Kirsty as she ran to him and wrapped her arms around his neck. His laird slowly walked closer as Kirsty let go and Jamie grunted as he hugged him. Jamie, with a confused look, looked at the Doctor as he smiled and leaned against the TARDIS.
“Happy birthday!” whispered the Doctor while he watched them go inside the house then turned and went inside the TARDIS while the door closed behind him.
