“How on earth can you be lost in your own TARDIS?” Jamie muttered for perhaps the tenth time as he trailed after the Doctor, shaking his head. Again, for the tenth time, the Doctor came back with some kind of dizzying and meaningless explanation.
“Well, the onboard navigation circuits must be malfunctioning,” he said in complete confidence to Jamie’s blank stare. Then, for the first time, he elaborated. “Usually, what you’re looking for just appears around the corner. Kind of like mind-reading.”
“Oh, aye, right,” Jamie said amiably, understanding the concept when it was put that way. He rubbed his stomach that had just growled at him. They were supposed to be looking for the kitchen. “So, how long will we be wandering around? How big is it?”
“Remember what I told you about dimensions, Jamie?” the Doctor quizzed.
“Aye. Kind of.” Jamie sounded troubled. “Things piled on top of each other, like playing cards.”
“That’s it.” The Doctor nodded. “Well, we don’t need to worry about those, but… in theory the TARDIS could be as extensive as the universe itself.”
They walked down a couple more white corridors with nothing to distinguish them at all. Jamie rubbed his stomach again, and frowned, remembering what the Doctor had said before about the universe. “We’re in trouble here, aren’t we?”
