I wrote this to say good-bye to the Brigadier.

“Doctor, are you alright?” Zoe asked while she and Jamie walked into the control room and saw the Doctor standing with both hands on the console. His face was pale and he looked like he had been crying.
“What? Um, no, I am not alright,” he said then started pushing buttons, turning switches and flipping levers and Zoe walked closer, looking at the screen.
“Is that right?” Zoe asked and the Doctor nodded. “But…we just left him a few minutes ago.”
“What are you two talking aboot?” Jamie asked while slightly limping toward the console then looked at the screen. “No, the Brigadier cannae be dead.”
“I’m afraid he is, Jamie. Now, hold on, we’ll be there in a few moments,” the Doctor said and they nodded. A few minutes later the TARDIS materialized under a tree and the doors opened, allowing them to go outside. The Doctor noticed that there were several other TARDISes nearby as he sighed and took Zoe’s hand as they headed toward the gravesite. The Doctor stopped when he saw someone talking on a cell phone and whoever it was seemed agitated about something.
“What do you mean you’re sick?! Great, where am I going to get another bag piper at this late date?!” the man said when the Doctor walked closer and the man looked at him. “What?”
“I say, I heard you saying that you need a bag piper. Well, I happened to know of one and he’s right over there,” the Doctor said and the man looked over at Jamie, who was holding Zoe close to his side.
“But he’s just a kid.”
“Yes, and he is a very good friend of the deceased. Please let him do it,” the Doctor said and the man sighed, nodding his head. “Thank you.”
“What’s going on?” Zoe asked while the Doctor walked toward them and stood next to Jamie.
“It appears there was to be a bag piper for the Brigadier’s funeral, but the man got sick and they need someone who…” the Doctor said as Jamie sighed and looked at the ground.
“I’ll do it,” Jamie said softly.
“That’s what I told him. Now, I need you to get changed,” the Doctor said and Jamie nodded, going back inside the TARDIS.
The mourners stood stone still while Jamie slightly limped to the grave and was carrying the bagpipes that he had found in the TARDIS. She had helped him repair the bagpipes as he stood near the grave and glanced over at the coffin. He made a little cough as he tried not to cry when he looked out at the mourners and Zoe stood at the back with the Doctor. The Doctor had seen his other selves standing even farther back and he was shocked to see how young one of his selves looked. He did like that his younger self was wearing a bow tie but wondered who the two young people that were standing next to him were. He shook his head then looked at Jamie and gave him a little smile.
Jamie wore a black tam o’ shanter, a black jacket with a black armband a white shirt, his kilt and sporran, white socks and black shoes that laced up his shins and tied below his knees. He closed his eyes then took a few deep breathes while saying a silent prayer in Gaelic and started playing. He played a Gaelic song as he closed his eyes and his fingers moved over the chanter. When he finished, Jamie turned to the coffin then saluted it and walked away. He went to join the Doctor as the Doctor slid Jamie’s hand into his hand and wrapped his fingers around Jamie’s fingers.
“Well, done, my boy, well done,” the Doctor whispered as Jamie nodded and the Doctor wrapped his arm around Zoe’s shoulders. Sighing, she placed her head against his shoulder as they watched the rest of the service and tears slowly rolled down their cheeks.
